The Open University's Centre for Geographical and Environmental Research
Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London
OU geographer Doreen Massey, architect and author of Hungry City, Carolyn Steel, and campaigner and writer Andrew Simms sketch out ways of navigating the complex challenges presented by global economic and ecological crises. The panel draw on their contributions to the publication ATLAS: Architecture, geography and change in an interdependent world, edited by Renata Tyszczuk, Joe Smith, Nigel Clark, Melissa Butcher (Black Dog, February 2012).
Poet Lemn Sissay, another contributor to ATLAS, follows the discussion with a reading of his poems. The event is chaired by broadcaster Quentin Cooper.
The ATLAS presents new work by the Open University OpenSpace Research Centre and its collaborators. The event marks the fourth of the OU Open Space annual Doreen Massey Lectures.
The event will follow with a wider group of contributors to the ATLAS by leading ‘doctor’s surgeries’ in the attractive foyer space where participants ‘help diagnose the world's problems, and draft prescriptions. Doctors surgeries are conversations in the company of a specialist'.
The event is co-organised with the Southbank Literary programme and is ticketed.
