Hi my name is Jo,
I'm starting S154-'Science Starts Here' in March '12 and hoping to go on to do S104- 'Exploring Science' in Oct '12.
I'm new to the OU and not sure what to expect. I'm 32, a working mum and haven't studied at this level before, I'm very excited though and looking forward to the challenge.
I was just wondering if anyone else was doing these courses locally?
Thanks Jo
Hi Jo,
I'm doing the same course as you and hoping to do the same one in Oct 12.
I'm also new to OU. I'm 36, a working mum and havent studied at this level before either. Even though I don't live in your area, we can still keep in touch if either of us, need any help or advice.
Hopefully we can both help each other out.
Diane.
Hiya Diane,
That would be lovely. Have you recieved your course material cos I haven't yet so not sure what to expect. What degree will you be working towards? I can't decide between Health Science or Environmental Science
Theres a facebook page aswell where ppl are all doing the same courses as us...if you use facebook you should join.
Keep intouch, Jo
Hiya jo,
I just sent a request for the FB page. I'm not really sure what quailfication I'm heading for all i know is I'm doing exploring science after this. I got my course material a few days ago, can't really make much of it at the minute, haven't had much time to actually sit down and read throught it properly, my 7 month old son normally needs me when I try and take 5 mins to sit down and look lol. Gonna try and sit down today and look at it. My email address is dianeh@liv.ac.uk if ya wanna drop me a email anytime. or add me on FB.
Take care
Diane.
Hi I'm dan from Middlesbrough. I'm doing the same course and wanting to do the exploring science in october. I'm studying towards the natural science degree. I received my materials yesterday I'm really excited to start
Hi Dan,
Yeah I received mine too.I'm used to the GCSE way of learning...with that you just get all the info and have to learn it but Degree level is just so different, I haven't sat and thoroughly looked at it but at a glance it all seems to be 'how to learn' and 'how to fit learning in around your life'...haven't actually seen what I'm exactly supposed to be learning yet. I get that its all about water, was alittle suprised that its ALL about water but still looks interesting and if it gives us the start we need to progress onto S104 then its all good!!
Are you on facebook? There is a page set up for us OU newbies..specifically on our course. I'm going to try to put the link on here for you but I'm rubbish...can't promise it will work lol. https://www.facebook.com/groups/329124940449806/
All the best, Jo x
