Hi,
I am doing a life science degree. There has been quite a bit of statistics in a lot of the level 3 material and some in level 2. Also it looks like quite a lot of science peer review involves statistics.
I was thinking of doing 2 level 2 statistics modules to get 60 points to finish off my 360 point (Hons) Life Science degree.
I had in mind to do Analysing data (M248) and Practical modern statistics (M249), both in 2012. I got the see the books at a level 3 residential in Nottingham this year. I think I could learn it but I heard some people say that M249 should be done after you do M248. Anyone done them together and found they could get through both? Any advice/comments are welcome.
Best regards,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Can't fault your choice of subject.
When I did my Chemistry, I was doing QA/QC stuff at work and enjoyed the Stats behind it. I then decided that I'd do Stats as part of my degree (and became better qualified - by a mile - than my boss!).
Unfortunately I can't really help with your question as I did M245 (Probability & Stats) followed by the Level 3 Stats course M345. (Yes, I'm THAT old!) Sometime I must do Level 3 Probability, but a Chemist isn't supposed to be so mathematically able!<g>

Hi Ben,
I too would be interested. Last year I completed an Hons degree (Politics, Philosphy and Economics) which had some stats in it. Because we were able to use a specific software program we barely touched on any maths or calculations. (let the computer take the strain). Having 'rested on my laurels' for a year I have just signed up for MST121 to update my maths ability and am thinking of M248 to give me a better understanding of what the computer was doing! Also I am toying with doing an Mphil in Economics at Cambridge which I think would expect me to have these skills.

(I am also trying to get a grip on these new forums etc!so I hope this works)
