The OU Library has produced a series of short animations under the banner "library shorts" to help students make the most of the library resources and services - and to mark the launch we´d like you to help name the main character in the video.
In the first video, called Finding Information For My Studies: Where Do I Start? you´ll meet an animated OU undergraduate student (he´s yellow, so easy to spot) who discovers a new way of using the online library to find information for his studies. The video focuses on using collections of selected resources, in particular subject areas, as a place to start your research. You can find more information about resources for your subject area here
As a way of marking the launch of the new animation, OU Library Services, in conjunction with Platform, is running a competition to give the animated student a name. All you have to do is leave your name suggestions in the comments section below this article and the winning entry (selected by a staff panel in the New Year) will be rewarded with a £20 book token.
So go ahead, what should we call the animated student?
Terms and conditions
This competition opens on 25/01/11 and closes on 07/03/2011. Prizes must be taken as offered and are not transferable or exchangeable for a cash equivalent. Entries must be posted in the comments section of this article by 7 March 2011. The promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or fail to reach the promoter by the relevant closing date for any reason. The winner will be decided by a panel from OU Library Services and the winner will be notified within a fortnight of the closing date. Entries are taken as acceptance of these terms and conditions. The name and town of the winner will be published on Platform. The editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Philosophus or Phil for short
how about BERT as in brings everyone revising together
lellow stuni
lol!
Sid , inspired by the advertising campaign back in the 80's "If you see Sid tell him"
Call him BITLY to help remember the website address, and because he knows
'a bit' !
other name ideas: -
DANDY SANDY ..... he's a sandy colour and ends his tasks' real Dandy'
SHREWD DUDE ... he is now!
NAV HEAD .... knows how to navigate
EGGHEART ... looks like a kind, sharing, egg shaped guy with a heart (he feeds his fish too)
NO TWIT .... pun on note it.
NO TEA .... easygram on note a ... and he drank his cuppa
SOURCEY ... pronounced like saucy... helps you to find info fast; AT THE 'OU'.
Suggest 'Ed' for 'education'
I would suggest the name
LOUIS - Library for OU students or Library of OU Information Shorts
Tyro Sift
which roughly translates to student inquirer.
I would call this little chap Edwin.. For all of the EDucation WINners that the OU has.
Hopper.
or Grasshopper: from the 70s TV series "Kung Fu", or is that too martial?
Marcus (that's me by the way, not a suggested name). :)
EggbOUrt
He looks like an egg! with an OU ;-)
I don't know if this has already been suggested, but I think the character should be called Seymore (as in see more).
How about Douglas? He kind of looks like a Doug ;)
I think his name is Bob Egg.
Ernie
Roy Pensive Unit, anagram of Open University
My idea would be "Jake". I think it would fit nicely.
Ovid: his sources, too, are eclectic, and as Ovidius ...
Looks like a yellow jumping bean. So Bertie Bean.
Spud
How about 'Atticus'?
How about Marcus?
I suggest:
Ouliver
How about Ed - full name Ed U. Cate!
OOps, I think I wrote in the wrong space....
How about Mister Oul ?
Alfi ....... At the Library Finding Information
Who decided 'he' is male anyway???!
I would like to suggest the name "Faveo" as this is Latin for help, aid and/or support.
Hi, I propose... YellOU! (& Fish) or just YellOU
---
Character is yellow and there is a fish.
It ends with OU :)
and you look for things in yell.com
ah! and that is a yellow fish, isn't it?
another... and you yell OU when you need resources
There must be more reasons...
for example, the L before OU could mean Library so it could be YelLOU
and just found on Wikipedia that Yellou is a village in the Kayao Department of Bazèga Province in central Burkina Faso. The village has a population of 615. It is the birthplace of former President of Niger Daouda Malam Wanké (who by the way, after leading a military coup in Niger, fulfilled the promise to hold democratic elections)
That last one was completely random, I know.

Regards, J
I am going for Rufus Routhcut
My suggestion is 'Oz' from osmosis; a gradual, often unconscious process of absorption or assimilation.
Guido
Nabou or Nebou - god of wisdom and writing... (with a spelling change)
(Finding... Nebou)
I believe the origin of books is associated with the Sumerians and they attributed their invention to Nidaba, goddess of grain (A Universal History of the Destruction of Books, Baez, 2008) so as you've picked a male how about Nedaba, or Ned for short?
suggested name 'Ope'
I think he should be called BLIP, as in a technology blip...we can all relate to those.
GILES
Guidance
Information
Learning
Education
Support
How about Quentin? :P
Milton! as in Milton Keynes, which someone suggested but it's too long.
Milton, don't you think it suits him? It's cute and geeky and not very common :)
I would name him Goldie
Tyrone
Combination of Tyro - Latin for Noob/beginner/recruit
and One.
One beginner.
What about Bib Lee O'Tek. A library personified.
My suggestion for the yellow character is the Latin word 'Illumino' meaning to enlighten.
Oli... or Oli Rubary in full (anagram of OU Library!)
Opus Discipulus
He definitely looks like a 'Henry'.
I suggest Noel Edge. - It sounds similar to "knowledge". Which you learn with the OU
Humbert.
I would call him 'Quest' as in the quest for knowledge from OU Library Services
How about Wowser (the browser)
Harlie Quin, as in Harlequin. I really like that word.
(For some reason in the preview of this post, every word starts with a capital letter. I did not do that if it shows up.)
