 Hi Danny,

My names Arran, I`m starting in Feb aswell, you can get me at arranbrennan@ymail.com, I was looking to see if I could get a Skype group set-up but haven`t had any response yet, doubt many people have looked into much about the course yet, anyways, be good to get in touch, prob be beneficial during the course, about an OU e-mail account, I have no idea, why not just use a regualr yahoo/gmail/hotmail account?

James Guthrie - Tue, 08/11/2011 - 15:29

Hey guys, I registered for TU100 last night too, with a final goal of BSc Honours Computing & IT.

I am just awaiting the registration and financial support packs to fill out and send back. I am 21 and have worked in engineering since leaving school but computing has always been my main interest. I am finally taking the plunge into OU to change my career. Really looking forward to it and hope to keep in touch with you guys.

As for OU email address, I dont think we get one until the course starts and we are OU students but I am not 100% sure.

Jenny Bond - Tue, 08/11/2011 - 16:58

Hi Danny

If you login to StudentHome you will find some details about your OU email account. Select the help section, then computer help and follow the email link.

Hi, I've also registered for the TU100 in Feb 2012, would be great to make a few contacts for support. You can add me on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/omair.a.arshad , follow me on Twitter, http://www.twitter.com/OmairArshad , email me at omairarshad@hotmail.co.uk .

Also there are a few Facebook support groups for this module, so it would be useful to join these: http://www.facebook.com/groups/153503348076362/ and http://www.facebook.com/OUTU100

You do get a google OU account if you click Google Apps in the student home section.

Stuart Stanway - Thu, 10/11/2011 - 22:50

Hi, I've recently registered for TU100 Feb 2012, just exploring the OU at present, seeing whats available and whats going on. I currently work in ICT but want to further my knowledge and career options, in the short time I've been in the industry it's amazing how quickly things change. I'm planning to do the Microsoft server technologies following this coarse and then see how it goes, haven't studied for a while so not sure how I'm going to find it.

A Skype group sounds good but there are google versions if we are to use google based email accounts, google+ is supposed to allow conferencing but I haven't tried it.

Stu.

Graham Fletcher - Fri, 25/11/2011 - 16:03

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about doing exactly the same as you and your wife Pete, already signed up to the TU100 in February and thinking it might be worth to do the MU123 alongside this. From the reviews the workload doesn't sound too off putting. Just trying to weight up whether it'll be too much to start with or pay off in the long run. Have you spoke to any OU advisors about it at all? Was thinking it might be a good idea!

I'll get a skype account sorted and join all the Facebook groups as well soon!

Nice to meet you all!

Bethany Williams - Mon, 14/11/2011 - 00:01

Hi all,

I start the TU100 module too and happy to join in any group discussions.

Will get my skype up and running soon :)

Beth

Bethany Williams - Mon, 14/11/2011 - 00:05

Also, as i have found the OU website a little less than helpful on what steps to take. I know how to apply but how much can you apply for at once? Can you do two modules that start in Feb together? I was thinking about doing my first year full time and seeing how it goes from there but this means i will study level one and two within the same year, is this ok?! I have tried and tried to make sense of it all but still struggling so if someone can explain it would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Beth

Robyn Bateman - Mon, 14/11/2011 - 10:50

Hi Bethany It's fine to study full time or part time with the OU or to flit between the two, dpending on your circumstances. In terms of studying a Level 1 and Level 2 course at the same time, I think that's possible but will depend on your current level of study, so you're not pushing yourself too much, too soon. Here's a bit more info on how long it takes to study certain modules at the OU, no more than 120 points at a time. Best thing to do is drop an email to general-enquiries@open.ac.uk or call 0854 3006090 and speak to one of the OU's trained advisors who'll be able to talk you through the options and help you plan the best route. Hope that helps and best of luck with your future studies.

Tony Wagstaff - Sun, 18/12/2011 - 14:32

Yet another mature student here. Been playing around with computers for years now. Even did M206 10 years ago. Loved every minute of it whilst doing it but forgotten most of it since LOL.

Based in North Staffordshire, so if anyone is local to me then we could maybe get together during the module for some face to face study. Sometimes helps to bounce ideas of someone else.

Good luck to everyone. Hope you all enjoy it.

Tony
