Library at Walton Hall

The library building on the Open University campus at Walton Hall in Milton Keynes has the following facilities.  To find out when you can visit the library building, go to the opening hours page.

Computing facilities

PCs are available on all floors for educational use by Open University staff and students,  and students attending Universities that are part of the SCONUL Access scheme in the UK and Ireland. Some PCs on the ground floor and second floor are for the exclusive use of OU central academic, regional and home nation staff.

Use of computers is subject to the:

  • Open University Computing Code of Conduct for members of staff and external users
  • Open University Student Computing Code of Conduct for OU students

To use the Library computing facilities:

  1. OU staff and full time research students can log on to staff use only PCs with their OUCU and password.
  2. OU Students need to register with Customer Services support in the Library where they will be issued with a library card and password. 
  3. External students will require a current SCONUL Access card from their home institution before they can register for computer use.

Software on the Library computers

All users may use the internet and Microsoft Office. Please note: All internet activity on the public access PCs is monitored.

Computer access in other libraries

Various schemes  give OU staff and students access to PCs in other libraries.

Wi-Fi facilities

Wi-Fi access is available throughout the Library. Access for OU staff and students is via their Open University username and password. Students from other Universities will need to show a current SCONUL access card from their home institution to arrange access.

Photocopying and printing

All photocopying and printing is subject to copying and downloading regulations. Photocopiers and printers are available in the Print room on the ground floor.  Students and external users need to pay for photocopying and printing.

Study rooms

Five rooms are available for private study. The Research Study room is available for use by Open University staff and research students.

Meeting rooms

 Meeting rooms in the Library may be booked by OU staff using the links available on the staff intranet. Some of the rooms have large screens, ceiling mounted data projectors and whiteboards.
