How do I reserve books?

To reserve a book:
1. Find the item you wish to borrow in the Library catalogue.
2. Choose 'Make a Request'.
3. Log in if required.
4. Select 'Hold' or 'Recall'.

Hold - Hold places a reservation on an item that may be on loan to another customer, but does not shorten the loan period. When the item is returned, at the end of the normal loan period, you will be informed that it is available. OU regional staff and Associate Lecturers can use the hold function to request items that are available on the shelves to be sent to them.

Recall - A Recall can only be placed for items which have been issued to other customers. They cannot be placed for items which are 'On hold at' the Circulation Desk awaiting collection by another customer. The loan period will be shortened to 21 days (this may exclude some formats). If the item has already been on loan for 21 days, the return of the item will be requested.

If you require further information on reserving a book please contact Customer Services either by phone: +44 (0) 1908 653138 or email: library-circulation@open.ac.uk stating your library card number.
