Amazon / Barnes and Noble - OU Library Lookup tool

This tool, also called "OU Traveller" displays up-to-date information about the status of books in the Open University Library collection where a reference has been found either in Amazon or Barnes and Noble. The OU Library Lookup tool requires the Firefox web browser This tool has been adapted by Tony Hirst from Jon Udell's LibraryLookup project.

OU traveller screenshotThe functionality offered by the OU Library Lookup script includes:

  • lookup of the book in the OU library catalogue, with status report;
  • different actions dependent on the OU library catalogue report for that item; for example, if the book is not held by the library then an option is provided to request the book which calls the OU Library 'request a book' website page;

How to install the Amazon/B&N OU Library Lookup tool on your computer:

  1. Install Firefox (free).
  2. Launch Firefox and carry out steps 3 and 4 from within Firefox.
  3. Install Greasemonkey (free - Installation instructions).
  4. Install the Lookup tool (free).
