Pete Smith

Lecturer in French

The Open University Faculty of Education and Language Studies Department of Languages

Profile

Following a first career in ELT, I settled in the UK in the 1990s and worked for the Cochrane Collaboration, coordinating a Systematic Review Group, as the Evidence Based Medicine movement gathered pace. Extending the approach to education, and to Language Learning in particular, I became involved with the Campbell Collaboration, and EPPI. I set up the EPPI Modern Languages Review Group which has since completed 3 reviews. Moving to the Open University in 2001, first as a Course Manager and then as a Lecturer in Languages, I have continued this work alongside research into online language learning and synchronous audio-graphic conferencing.
