I joined the OU as Staff Tutor in Education in the London region in May 2003 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2006. I currently chair E844 Language and Literacy in a Changing World and am a member of the E301 The Art of English module team.
I am a member of the Centre for Language And Communication (CLAC) and have been involved in the Thinking Together research project, investigating the use of ICT in primary mathematics classroom to promote exploratory talk. I formerly worked as an EAL and English teacher at North Westminster Community School, London.
I am an active CPD facilitator on the topics of language and mathematics, English as an additional language (EAL), and provision for gifted and talented EAL students. I am currently interested in the 'linguistic landscape' field and working on a project about creativity and identity in Liverpool Footbal Club fans' banners.
I am the Deputy Chair of NALDIC (the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum - the UK's professional association for those working with learners of English as an additional language in our schools) and editor of its publication NALDIC Quarterly.
