I have been a Lecturer in French at the Open University since 2005 and Head of French since January 2008.
Since I started working at the Open University, I have written course materials for most of our French courses. I was previously course team chair of L192 Beginners French. I currently chair LXR122 (French residential school) and I co-chair the production of a new intermediate course in Italian, L150 Vivace, which will be available from 2011. I am also a member of the Department of Languages VLE group.
Before joining the OU, I taught at Worcester College, Oxford, and at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. I was a visiting lecturer at Dartmouth College, USA, in 1993-94.
I am currently the chair of LXR122 Action in French, the OU standalone French residential course at the University of Caen, and co-chair of the production of L150 Vivace (Intermediate Italian). In the past I chaired and wrote course materials for L192 Bon Départ (Beginners French. I was a unit author and book coordinator for the latest edition of L120 Ouverture (Intermediate French) and of L211 Envol (Upper Intermediate French). I have been a tutor and a course director for LZX122 Action in French at our residential school in France.
I am interested in the use of technology in language teaching. I am a member of the Department's VLE group which coordinates the use of online conferencing and online tools in our language courses. I am also particularly interested in the teaching of listening and speaking skills and in the use of authentic speech in language teaching.
I am interested in the linguistic analysis and teaching of spoken French and English. I am currently researching on the use of authentic speech in language teaching.
I was also involved in the TRIDEM project with colleagues from the Open University, the Université de Franche-Comté and Carnegie Mellon University in 2005 and 2006. This looked at bilingual telecollaboration between students of these three universities using synchronous and asynchronous online tools. I am now analysis data from this project with my colleague Tim Lewis.
