I joined the OU in May, 2009 as part of the OpenELT team to work on the development of an online EAP course. I have been involved in the field of ELT for over 10 years. I have taught EFL and ESP in Italy and Switzerland, run my own language company teaching in-company Business English, and taught EAP in the UK and abroad. I spent nearly five years at Brunel University, leading a team of part-time advisers, working with staff in the area of curriculum development and incorporating academic writing within the disciplines. The other strand of my work was to develop the academic writing and thinking of both home and international students.
I am co-chair of an online English for Academic Purposes module (L185). I am also working on a project to embed language development in the curriculum of Maths, Computing and Technology.
My research interests include the development of language in widening participation students in HE, use of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and use of language in organisations. I am currently working on my EdD in the use of ELF in online forums as well as participating in the development of a book on organisational communication.
