Funding for YASS modules in maintained schools in England
Funding in England is available in maintained schools via the Young People’s Learning Agency. To claim back fees, the school enters the OU YASS codes onto the school census and receives a payment retrospectively.
Guidance
- Schools can now deliver HE as part of a full-time level 3 programme and all maintained schools are eligible for HE funding
- The HE must be a small part of the provision, and the young person must have a full level 3 programme
- Funding for modules relies on the provision involving an appropriate amount of teacher support – it would not be acceptable for this to be undertaken as private study
- There should be no additional cost to the funding body.
The 6th form funding document explained
The 6th form funding document sent to all schools states that ‘Open University modules will be funded at the same rate as an AS/A2 qualification.' In real terms this means that:
- A 60-point Open University module would receive the same funding as an AS/A2
- A 30-point Open University module would receive half the funding of an AS/A2
- A 10-point Open University module would receive a sixth of the funding of an AS/A2
QAN codes for YASS
The school census uses the #2370*** QAN codes, where the last three characters relate to the points and weighting (See table). FE colleges will need to use one of the codes in the range 00285464 to 00285472 that are listed on the Learning Aims Database.
