This special lecture, co-hosted by the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance, the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information, and OpenSpace: Centre for Geographical and Environmental Research, welcomes distinguished American sociologist Craig Calhoun.
Feminist research is informed by a history of breaking silences, of demanding that women’s voices be heard, recorded and included in wider intellectual genealogies and histories. This has led to an emphasis on voice and speaking out in the research endeavour. Moments of secrecy and silence are less often addressed.
CCIG hosted an excellent writing workshop led by Rowena Murray on 16 June 2009. The audience comprised CCIG early career researchers and PhD students. The purpose was to help us write more efficiently – whatever our personal writing tasks.
Applications are invited for a Chartered PhD Research Studentship. It is based in the Department of Politics and International of Studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Open University, and hosted by the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG).
The idea of 'political lunch chats', which have been taking place on an regular basis over the past two years at the Open University, grew out of a frustration with what was perceived as privileging academic output over political engagement. Involvement in political projects and agendas is often considered a nice add-on to the production of theory, rather than integral to it.
To celebrate what has been a transformative academic year for CCIG, this month’s CCIG Forum will end with a summer social for members and friends of the Centre. Wine and nibbles will be provided.
In addition to an exploratory conversation between the Intimacies and Publics Programmes, and a two-paper Mobilities seminar, CCIG Forum 4 represented the launch of our new CCIG website.
