The cluster takes as its focus the relationship between visuality, security and conflict. It includes a particular interest in the relationship between war and 'the act of seeing' - the first person, embodied experience of seeing. While the role played by imagery in times of war has attracted considerable attention in recent years - focused in part on the War on Terror - comparatively little attention has been paid to the experience of seeing more generally and its relationship to how wars are fought and how they are perceived and understood away from the battlefield. In drawing attention to this area the cluster seeks to offer a new agenda for thinking about visuality, security and conflict in regard both to the present and historically.
