Families, Relationships and Communities Research Programme - Celebrations and Opportunities

Tuesday, 27 March 2012, 12:30 - 18:00

Christodoulou Meeting Room 15, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA
Directions: http://www3.open.ac.uk/contact/locations.aspx

You are invited to join us for a celebratory event and review of work, which will also introduce opportunities going forward.

The FaR programme is now in its 4th year of activities within the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance, and is now being extended to incorporate attention to communities, as well as families and relationships. Over this time, we have also seen some regretful departures and happy arrivals amongst the staff and researchers involved with the programme.

This event will provide an overview of current theoretical issues and thematic areas addressed by this programme, and introduce the new area of interest around communities. The afternoon will also include the launch of two new publications from Policy Press:

  • the new journal, Families, Relationships and Society which is co-edited by Professor Brid Featherstone;
  • Understanding Family Meanings by Jane Ribbens McCarthy, Megan Doolittle and Shelley Day Sclater.

The afternoon will also provide an opportunity to update and network with old and new colleagues, or just find out about the activities of the group. We will discuss how interested researchers at the OU can get involved if they feel inclined, and will conclude with the launch and refreshments.
