Bodies research programme workshop

This is an invitation only event. For participants, the programme is set out below.

The workshop will revolve around sessions of roundtable discussion in which each participant will have a chance to speak briefly about their individual projects and how they bear on key common conceptual issues. The roundtable will explore some of the following themes:

  • Conceptualising bodies, subjectivity, agency, active and passive bodies, the 'bodymind', intersubjectivity.
  • The mind/body dichotomy, bodies-minds-emotions, the liberal rational autonomous subject and embodied subjects, autonomous agency and interconnected intersubjective agency.
  • The body as a site for politics, political bodies and depoliticised bodies.
  • The materiality of ideas about the body and the political body.
