This research explores the involvement of external parties, such as community groups, experts and students, in the production of museum exhibitions. I am particularly interested in how external parties become involved, what roles they play and why museums decide to involve those who are not employed by the museum. The research considers what various kinds of co-curation / co-production might mean for museum management. The research is based on 20 case studies which were collected from a variety of museums between November 2008 and February 2010.
