Biography

Myles was appointed Visiting Professor (International Relations) at the Open University in late 2005. This followed a career in development and diplomacy which included serving on the Executive Board of the World Bank and as British Ambassador to Ethiopia. Myles was in 2004/2005 Head of Secretariat to the Commission for Africa (CfA), whose Report 'Our Common Interest' formed the basis of the Communique on Africa at the Gleneagles Summit.

Myles works closely with a number of Faculties in the University in following through the CfA analysis. His involvement with the OU Business School in particular provides a focus for the crucial role of the private sector and business in driving Africa's development. He has published a number of articles and book chapters (for example, in 'Financing Development: The G8 and UN Contribution' ISBN 978-0-7546-4676-1 and 'Biotechnology and Health' ISBN 978 0 627 02700 0), and is a regular contributor to debates and discussions on African issues.
