Dr Jacky Holloway is a senior lecturer at The Open University Business School, and Associate Dean for Academic Staffing. In this role she manages the School's academic heads of department, and leads on workload planning and management and staff development initiatives. From 2005-8 she was head of the Centre for Public Leadership and Social Enterprise. She has been a member of many course teams at all academic levels, chairing interdisciplinary Masters courses in performance and public management and undergraduate business functions.
A graduate of the LSE and the Open University, Jacky spent some years working for a large trade union and then as an NHS administrator before completing her PhD with the Open University Systems Group. Her doctoral and subsequent research has focused on the design and impact of organizational performance management systems, with journal publications particularly in the areas of public sector performance and benchmarking. She has contributed to two large multi-institution projects funded by the NHS Service Delivery and Organisation (SDO) R&D programme and is on the advisory board for a third SDO project. Other research interests include evidence-based management; contingency and critical theories.
Active in the British Academy of Management (BAM), Jacky is a member of Council and the Executive Committee, serving as Vice Chair in 2010 and taking the lead in BAM's development events for doctoral students and early career academics. She was a founder member of the BAM Performance Management Special Interest Group, recently editing Performance management: multidisciplinary perspectives (Palgrave, 2008, with Richard Thorpe) to which many SIG members contributed. She is on the editorial boards for the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, and Systems Research and Behavioural Science.
Jacky regularly reviews proposals for the ESRC and papers for key management journals and conferences. She was a member of the ESRC's 'virtual college' and the Quality Assurance Agency's subject benchmarking group for business and management. As well as supervising doctoral students, she has examined PhD theses for Hull, Leeds, Stirling and Warwick universities. She is a member of the Academy of Management, Operational Research Society and Higher Education Academy.
Research interests focus on organisational performance measurement and management; health service management; qualitative research methods; evidence-based management; contingency and critical theories. Special interest in the impact of performance measurement and management, on organisational outputs and outcomes.
