As University Secretary, Fraser is responsible for the effective governance of the institution and ensuring that administrative units - Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Communications, Estates, Audit, IT, Central Secretariat, the University Secretary's Office, the Information Office and the OU Development Office- are effectively managed and meet University objectives. 

Other key responsibilities include:

• Leading four of the University's priorities: market strategy, pre-registration customer experience, student number planning and influencing Government

• Overseeing the University’s approach to risk management, business continuity planning in the event of a major incident and health and safety.

Career

Fraser has been University Secretary since January 1999.  Prior to joining the OU he held senior appointments at the Universities of Essex and Hull.  In his earlier career he held positions at the Universities of Edinburgh and Stirling, as well as working in local government.

He holds a degree in Mathematical Physics from the University of Edinburgh and a Diploma in Public Administration.
